 in West Africa country, big is definitely beautiful. Men over there desire women who are heavier end of the scale and overweight is revered. Girls are definitely better fed than boys and there are even 'wife-fattening' farms for families to send their daughters to. 

 
It is not uncommon for the poorest families to spend whatever little money they have feeding their daughters to fatten them up. The hope is that she would then be able to nab a rich man who will provide for them.
